However, in the presence of insulin, these cells reject fat in favor of burning blood glucose.  Simultaneously, the fat cells are instructed to store up those unused fatty acids in the form of triglycerides, which form the blubber around our midsections and other places.</p>
<p>What causes the pancreas to secrete extra insulin, leading to excess fat storage? Insulin increases as a result of rising blood sugar, or glucose, which is a result of consuming sugary and starchy foods.
