Looking For Arthritis Remedies?
Arthritis, which is a condition that causes painful inflammation of joints, affects many people worldwide. It is a chronic condition, and can leave a person in pain to the point that they can be completely handicapped by it. There are over one hundred and fifty different types of arthritis that affect the joints and bones, with some of the most common being osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout. Some of the common causes are unstable joints, hormonal factors, psychological factors, environmental factors and nutrient deficiencies. Although many people treat arthritis conventionally with medications, there are a number of home remedies for arthritis that can be very helpful in relieving pain and discomfort in the joints. Some of the natural remedies for arthritis that have offered relief to people are listed below.
Steam baths and body massages can be quite beneficial in treating arthritis pain. Gently massaging the painful joints with olive oil that has been warmed and infused with juniper, sage, lavender, garlic, or sassafras oil can give immediate relief. Soaking the painful joints in a bath of Epsom salts is another classic treatment for the stiffness and pain caused by chronic arthritis.
Surprisingly, an old fashioned remedy that some people swear by is to slice up a potato, leaving the skin on, and allow it to soak overnight in a glass of water. Then, first thing in the morning, prior to eating or drinking anything else, drink the glass of potato water.
Many nutritional supplements are used in the treatment of arthritis symptoms. Adding calcium, vitamin C and zinc to the diet can be helpful. Omega 3 oils, and foods rich in those, such as salmon, can help to relieve the symptoms of certain types of arthritis. Ten grams of these fatty acids daily are said to improve arthritis symptoms. Commonly used nutritional supplements are Glucosamine and Chondroitin, two very popular components for helping to promote joint health and repair. MSM is naturally occurring sulfur that has anti-inflammatory properties. Manganese, an antioxidant, can facilitate enzymes that are useful in treating effects of rheumatoid arthritis. Niacinamide, or Vitamin B3 can aid in maintaining the cells and tissue’s integrity to slow arthritis progression.
For rheumatoid arthritis, ginger is said to be an excellent natural treatment. Powdered or fresh, ginger is a good food additive that may offer significant pain relief to some.
A person with arthritis can avoid relying on pharmaceutical help by treating their pain in many natural ways. Natural remedies are safer and have been shown to not cause potential adverse reactions like some people suffer from using anti-inflammatory drugs. Some of the popular drugs used to treat arthritis have been taken off the market because they increased the risk of heart disease, lethal skin problems, and stroke. Since then, many people have turned to many of the tried and true natural remedies.
Arthritis natural remedies are as varied and vast as are the types of arthritis. While not all of these may work for every person suffering from pain, any arthritis pain remedy that does help with the painful symptoms of this chronic illness should be used to relieve the suffering of the patient.
